Help, answers, and how to reach us

Give A Chit tracks whose turn it is. The “chit” is a virtual token that passes from person to person in a group — perfect for book clubs, hosting duties, gift exchanges, carpools, chores, or any rotation. This page covers the questions we hear most. Full help is also built into the app under the Help tab.

Getting started

How does Give A Chit work?

Create a group, add the people in it, and the chit starts with you. When your turn is done, pass the chit to the next person in the rotation. Everyone in the group sees who holds it now and who’s up next.

What is the Member Pool?

Your personal, reusable list of people you might add to groups. Enter someone once — by importing from Contacts or typing them in — and you can add them to any group without re-entering their details. Tap the Member Pool tab, then the + button.

How do I create a group and add members?

Passing the chit

How do I pass the chit?

Open the group and tap the 🎫 button along the bottom. Choose to pass to the next person, or skip someone (the skipped member keeps their place for next time). Every pass and skip is recorded in the chit history.

What if the chit holder doesn’t have the app?

A leader can pass the chit on their behalf. Members without the app can be notified by text message when it becomes their turn, as long as they have a mobile number on file.

Members & leaders

What’s a leader vs. the owner?

The owner created the group (gold crown) and is the only one who can invite new members or delete the group. Leaders and co-leaders (teal crown) can pass the chit on someone’s behalf, add members, reorder the rotation, and mark people as sitting out or having left.

Sitting out vs. leaving

Sitting out temporarily skips a member but keeps them in the list — bring them back anytime with Back In. Leaving moves a member to the Former Members section; a leader can reinstate them later. Either way, whoever currently holds the chit must pass it on first.

Invitations & notifications

How do I invite someone?

Only the group owner can invite. Open the group, tap the ✉️➕ button, pick the person, and send the invitation by Messages — or copy the link and paste it into a message yourself. When they tap the link, they’re connected to the shared group automatically. (Give A Chit works on iPhone and iPad only.)

I’m not receiving notifications

Check Settings → Notifications → Give A Chit and make sure notifications are enabled. Also confirm you’re signed in to iCloud, since the shared group data syncs through iCloud.

Why did a group disappear from my list?

Either the owner deleted the whole group (which removes it for everyone), or you left it — or a leader marked you as having left. To rejoin, ask the owner or a leader to reinstate you.

Privacy & data

Give A Chit stores your groups and members in your own iCloud account and shares them only with people you invite. There are no ads and no tracking. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
